Report: Ravens hire Greg Roman, look to improve run game

On Thursday morning, it was reported that the Baltimore Ravens had hired former Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Greg Roman. At  this time Roman has not been given a specific role.

Given his history, Roman will most likely serve alongside Marty Mornhinweg and Juan Castillo as a run game specialist.  During the “State of the Ravens” press conference earlier this week, Steve Bisciotti made it clear that he wanted to see improvements in the rushing scheme next season. This signing appears to be the first step in that direction.

Under Romans’s tenure in San Francisco and Buffalo, each team’s run game thrived. The utilization of a man to man blocking scheme has worked for Roman in the past and it could transfer very nicely to a Ravens team looking for a good blocking scheme that has not been the same since Gary Kubiak left.

Roman was a part of the Ravens staff during the 2006 and 2007 seasons.  During that short time frame he served as an assistant offensive line coach. Former Ravens running backs Jamal Lewis and Willis McGahee each had 1,000 yard seasons during Roman’s two seasons in Baltimore.
