UPDATE: During his afternoon press conference on Thursday, John Harbaugh said that Joe Flacco will be resting this week as a precaution. The Ravens hope the rest takes care of the discomfort. With that being said, Harbaugh acknowledged that back injures are not easy to get a read, and Flacco’s timetable to return is not set in stone. Harbaugh added that the coaching staff had no knowledge of Flacco’s injury until he reported to camp yesterday.
OWINGS MILLS — The bad news just keeps on coming for the Baltimore Ravens. On Wednesday evening, it was reported that Joe Flacco is experiencing issues with his back.
Initially, it was reported that Flacco would be out 3-6 weeks, putting his status for the season opener on Sept. 10 against the Bengals in jeopardy. However, there are some conflicting reports. Adam Schefter reported that Flacco suffered the injury while lifting and he will not be missing significant time.
Schefter states that the team wants to play it safe with Flacco and not rush anything. Either way, Flacco will be missing time to get comfortable with the offense.
Baltimore has already lost a handful of players including Dennis Pitta, Tavon Young, and Kenneth Dixon. The fact that all of these occurred before contact practice started is troubling, to say the least.
