So yeah, a lot happened this week, particularly on the football front. It’s only appropriate that we start Episode 42 reacting to NFL free agency stories, both for the Ravens and league-wide (5:18). The Ravens lost several big names this week, but signing veterans Earl Thomas & Mark Ingram put most minds at ease. After we go over the moves concerning the Ravens, we talked about the transactions involving Odell Beckham Jr., Antonio Brown, Le’Veon Bell, and you guessed it, Breshad Perriman.
Up next, we welcome in this week’s guest, Kyle J. Andrews, Ravens Beat Reporter for 105.7 The Fan (44:34). After Andrews gave his takes on the Ravens free agency moves, Jake talked to Kyle about his experience covering the Ravens for The Fan. Like Jake, Kyle recently graduated college after switching majors to pursue a career in sports journalism. Andrews told some interesting stories from his first season covering the Ravens and shared what he’s learned from this great opportunity.
After Jake wraps things up with Kyle, Nolan & Ian jump back in and the guys dish out their raw reactions to the Maryland Terps’ first-round exit out of the Big Ten Tournament with Thursday’s 69-61 loss to the Nebraska Cornhuskers (1:05:27). Recording of Episode 42 began immediately following the game, so the reactions are as fresh as can be.
In this week’s baseball segment, Jake provided the latest from Orioles Spring Training in Sarasota (1:15:27). But the bulk of the baseball talk this week dives into the rule changes announced by Major League Baseball on Thursday morning. Some of the tweaks won’t occur for MLB clubs until the 2020 season, but independent leagues (such as the Atlantic League) will experiment with the new rules this year. For traditional baseball fans like Jake & Nolan, a lot of these adjustments are just plain silly. We’ll tell you why.
Like always, the numbers segment ends the podcast this week (1:26:09). However, the numbers this week will focus specifically on Ravens players who wore #42 on their jersey. Since Major League Baseball celebrates Jackie Robinson Day every year by having all players wear #42, there aren’t specific Orioles players we can individually focus on.
