Welcome to Episode 43 of the Charm City Bird Watch Podcast with site owner Jake McDonnell, editor Nolan McGraw, and author Ian Schultz

We start the show this week by revealing our expectations for the Maryland men’s basketball team ahead of the Terps’ Thursday afternoon matchup against Belmont in the first round of the NCAA Tournament (7:10). With Mark Turgeon leading this talented, young Maryland squad, how much noise can the Terps make during March Madness?

Up next, we talk about the retirements of Ravens special teams coordinator Jerry Rosburg and defensive tackle Haloti Ngata, who spent the first nine years of his career in Baltimore (22:39). Is Ngata’s career resume decorated enough to award him a spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame? How serious is Rosburg’s loss to the Ravens going forward? We do our best to answer these tough questions.

After some football talk, we break to welcome in this week’s guest, Fred Donahue of Birdland BS and BIGPLAY.com (38:48). For the Ravens, Fred and Jake reacted to Jamison Hensley‘s piece on the Ravens spending more money on their secondary than any other team, along with Terrell Suggscomments on Ozzie Newsome & Eric Decosta on Skip and Shannon: Undisputed. The two also talked about the Orioles rebuild and Maryland’s chances against the Belmont Bruins on Thursday afternoon.

Following Jake’s conversation with Fred, Nolan and Ian jump back in for the baseball portion of the show. The CCBW crew gave their best guesses at how they think the Orioles Opening Day lineup will look next Thursday against the Yankees (1:00:07). They also reacted to Mike Trout‘s $430 million contract (1:19:12), propping the question: How long will it be until we see the first billion dollar contract dished out in American sports?

Like always, we end the show with our weekly numbers segment (1:23:58), reflecting on the best Baltimore Sports athletes who wore the number 43 on their jersey.
