Welcome to Episode 44 of the Charm City Bird Watch Podcast with site owner Jake McDonnell, editor Nolan McGraw, and author Ian Schultz

We recorded the show less than 24 hours before first pitch at Yankee Stadium for Orioles Opening Day. With that said, the first part of the show gets you up-to-speed with the latest on the O’s before the regular season officially gets underway (6:13). We’ll talk Andrew Cashner replacing Alex Cobb as the Opening Day starter, the heavily-talked about roster moves, and our record projections for the 2019 Orioles.

Up next, our football segment dives into the latest Ravens headlines from the NFL Owners Meetings in Phoenix, Arizona (27:06). Both Head Coach John Harbaugh and General Manager Eric Decosta spoke with reporters earlier this week, and we dissected the top takeaways. We also gave our thoughts and concerns on the newly-approved rule change that will allow coaches to review pass interference plays, both penalties and no-calls (45:51).

Over the weekend, Nolan and Jake had the honor to attend the 2019 Ed Block Courage Awards Ceremony at the Renaissance Hotel in Baltimore. Nolan had a chance to speak with Marshal Yanda, the 2019 Ravens recipient for the award. Nolan recounted his interaction with Yanda and shared some great quotes the Baltimore right guard said (54:04).

After a rapid fire numbers segment (1:10:28), the guys react to the Maryland Terps’ second-round exit from the NCAA Tournament following Saturday’s 69-67 lossto LSU (1:12:54).

To wrap up the show this week, PressboxOnline.com Maryland Basketball writer Brooks Dubose joins Jake to take a look at where the Terps stand after a solid season (1:24:22). What does the future hold for Bruno Fernando and Jalen Smith? How should Mark Turgeon be regarded? How excited should Maryland fans be about their men’s basketball team heading into the 2019-20 season?
